Golden Relief: Transforming Knee Osteoarthritis Treatment with Gold Microparticles
This study explored the use of intra-articular gold microparticles to treat knee osteoarthritis (KOA). Thirty patients with moderate KOA received injections of gold microparticles mixed with their synovial fluid. The results showed significant improvements in pain, stiffness, and physical function after 8 weeks and sustained benefits at 2 years. Analysis revealed changes in proteins related to immune response and inflammation in both synovial fluid and serum. The study suggests that gold microparticles may reduce inflammation and provide pain relief in KOA patients, with no adverse effects reported. However, further randomized, controlled, double-blind studies are needed to confirm these findings.
