Recent Advances of Gold Compounds in Anticancer Immunity

Gold compounds are increasingly recognized as promising agents in the development of novel metal-based anticancer drugs. Research reveals that gold compounds can also counteract tumor immune evasion and stimulate immune cell function, thereby amplifying their anticancer potential. This review consolidates current knowledge on the antitumor effects of gold drugs, exploring their interplay with various facets of antitumor immunity, including innate and adaptive immunity, immunogenic cell death, and immune checkpoints, while also addressing their associated adverse effects. We highlight recent examples of anticancer gold compounds, emphasizing their potential to synergize with anticancer immunotherapies, such as immune checkpoint inhibitors, to forge innovative therapeutic strategies.
